Welcome to 2020

Oops!

Been a long, long while since I've had a chance to sit down and write.  Well, I've had a few opportunities, but nothing much to say.  We made it through the holiday season, which was different than the past, mainly because I was still working full time (as the "new" girl).  The kids were also quite sick through the holidays, but we had some fun and really just relaxed as a family together.
Now we've hit our stride into the new year.  I do always like the new year and setting out intentions, but this year is nothing major.  Even though I've been working for 3 months now, I feel like we are still getting into the swing of family life with both Dan and I working full-time.  The kids have adjusted so well, and we are so blessed to have help from Dan's family so for the most part it feels manageable.  Still, the time NOT spent at work goes so much more quickly, and I am doing my best to make the most of it and have some fun, despite the endless list of cleaning, groceries and catchup that needs to be done on the weekends.  I find it so helpful to have some rhythms in place that guide us as a family.
There are a few staples in our schedule, and a few things we are adding in to keep us happy, healthy, and connected.  One thing I am super excited about is that we switched out our gym memberships and have a family membership to the YMCA.  We hope to go regularly as a family, and Dan and I hope to use it for our own fitness journey too.  Another thing I am always ready to do is schedule in my "self-care" to keep me supported.  I plan for a monthly massage, and check-in with my own counsellor every few months to manage my own stress level.  In addition, I have 1 night/week that is usually my "restore" night (apart from Sabbath).  I usually do a light stretching workout and have a bath and read with tea... just spend time on my own recharging in the quiet.  As a family, we have 1 family night/week that I'm so excited about.  We plan for a family activity every second weeks, and on the other weeks the kids have their Korean class and Daniel and I get a date night.  Hooray!  I still would love to incorporate another night of Bible study/ministry as a family, but that's still in the works.  Maybe once our schedule is a bit more solidified and we are used to it, we'll see.
Other than that, it's the usual school, work, dog, church, and all the household tasks that come with life.  It's not always glamorous, but it is special and I really wouldn't change it for the world.  It feels like we are at a place as a family that we CAN do many of the things we have been waiting to do.  That, itself, is enough for me in 2020!  Happy New Year friends. <3
