Back to School

We have survived week 1 of school!  Hallelujah!

What a jolt to the system it has been.  For the first time ever, my boys are out of the house for 6 1/2 hours.  SIX AND A HALF HOURS!  That is a lifetime for us all.  That's not to say that I have had any problem filling the time.  This week has just flown by for me.  I could too easily get used to all this "spare" time.
The kiddos did awesome this week, even if it was tough.  They have an awesome teacher and a few good friends in their class, and they are already making new friends too.  One of them is finding the days especially long, and on the second day he woke up crying that he didn't want to go to school because it was too long.  Fortunately, I was free for the day, so I picked him up at lunch and we ate our lunch as a picnic in a park and I sent him back.
That little connection seemed to do the trick because he was right ready to go the next day.  I am sure their little brains and bodies are exhausted.  Grade 1 is a lot different than a play structured 3-hour kindergarten.  I have been activating all my patience this week to handle the unexpected meltdowns, but I am sure we will all settle into routine in no time.
In the meantime, I am doing pretty much the same things as before...

Deep cleaning/organizing for fall after all that summer fun

Meal prep and making lunches

Drinking coffee in peace, and starting to get myself ready to look for work

There has been the odd indulgence (like sneaking out for a solo kayak and swim one afternoon, which was amazing), but it really has been so busy.

Today is rainy and I'm buckled down at home, catching up on the housework after a weekend away and enjoying staying in.  I'm hoping for some quieter days ahead.

Hope your start of September has been smooth!
